Since Apple launched notebooks and chargers that support PD3.1 power supply, many fast charger manufacturers have launched corresponding 140W chargers. Today's disassembly is a 2C1A multi-port gallium nitride charger from Momis, which uses folding pins for easy portability and storage. The USB-C1 port supports 140W output power, which can meet the fast charge needs of Apple laptops.
 
In addition, USB-C2 supports 100W fast charge, USB-A port also supports fast charge, and supports automatic power distribution to meet the needs of multiple devices at the same time. Momis 140W gallium nitride charger disassembled
 
After seeing the unpacking and testing of this 140W gallium nitride charger from Momis, we will disassemble it and learn about the internal design of this charger.
 
 
First, pry open the charger shell along the joint of the shell, and the inside is filled with potting.
 
 
Use a cutting machine to cut the shell and take out the inner PCBA module. The gap between the PCBA module and the heat sink is filled with gray thermal potting glue.
 
 
The length of PCBA module measured by vernier caliper is about 69.51mm.
 
 
The PCBA module width is approximately 68.56mm.
 
 
The PCBA module thickness is approximately 25.06mm.
 
 
The folding pins are connected by wire welding.
 
 
The brass heat sink is soldered to the PCBA module.
 
 
Weld and remove the brass heat sink covered by the PCBA module, clean the potting glue filled with the PCBA module, and continue the disassembly.
 
 
The PCBA module welds several small plates to make full use of space and has a very compact design.
 
 
The output side is welded with solid state filter capacitor and step-down plate.

The high voltage filter capacitor, resonant capacitor and resonant inductor are welded on the upper right side, the transformer is on the upper left, and the output filter capacitor is on the left side of the transformer. A PFC+LLC 2-in-1 controller is welded to the back of the PCBA module, two LLC switch tubes are welded to the upper left, patch Y capacitor is welded to the right, two synchronous rectifier tubes and synchronous rectifier controller and feedback optocoupler. A PFC switch tube, PFC rectifier tube and patch Y capacitor are welded to the bottom.
 
Through the observation of the front and back of the PCBA module, it is found that this 140W gallium nitride charger of Momis adopts PFC+LLC switching power supply architecture design, adopts MPS power supply scheme, PFC boost switching tube and LLC switching tube both use nano gallium nitride power chip, and silicon carbide diode is from Pingwei. The output adopts the two-channel core protocol chip and the South Core technology step-down controller for multi-port fast charge output. Let's start from the input side to understand the design and materials of the entire charger.
 
 
Charger input small plate welded wire is connected to folding pin.

The second stage common mode inductor is wound with flat copper wire and welded with insulated support at the bottom.
 
 
The rectifier bridge is welded on the vertical small plate. The rectifier bridge is from PY Pingwei, model TBM810, specification 8A 1000V, and is connected by two half Bridges with equal heat distribution.
 
 
Copper and tin are exposed on the back of the small plate to increase the heat dissipation area.
 
 
The two thin film filter capacitors are from JURCC Gateway Electronics and are 1μF 450V.
 
 
The filter inductor adopts magnetic surround system.
 
 
The power control chip adopts MPS HR1211, which is a multi-mode PFC and current mode LLC two-in-one controller. The functions that can be realized by 2-3 chips in the traditional chip scheme are integrated into one chip. The PFC controller supports CCM and DCM working modes.
 
The HR1211 uses digital loop control, and the chip parameters can be flexibly configured. Support high voltage start and intelligent X capacitor discharge, PFC level supports up to 250KHz operating frequency, LLC level built-in 600V half-bridge driver, internal integrated bootstrap diode, operating frequency up to 500KHz, support rich protection functions.
 
 
PFC boost switch tube from Nano, is a gallium nitride power chip, model NV6127, the internal integration of gallium nitride switch tube, gallium nitride driver and logic circuit, simple application. NV6127 adopts QFN6*8mm package, upgraded heat dissipation performance, 125mΩ conductive resistance, and built-in driver supports 10-30V power supply. The maximum switching frequency is 2MHz.

PFC rectifier from Pingwei, model DCSC0665E, specification 6A 650V, is a silicon carbide diode, DFN5*6 package.
 
 
The screen printing ES5J's fast recovery diode is used to charge the electrolytic capacitor when the charger is powered on, bypassing the PFC circuit.
 
 
Four high-voltage filter capacitors are welded to a small plate inside the charger.
